Warwick Valley School District hosts STEAM Fair

WARWICK — The Warwick Valley School District held its annual STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) Fair along with the Middle School STEM competition, K- 12 Art Show, Newspaper Fashion Show, Art Scholarship Chair Auction, photography, drawing, sketching and painting at the Warwick Valley High School last Friday, May 11.
The theme of this year's STEAM Fair was interactivity whether launching straw rockets, coding Ozo bots or participating in a session of Lego Battlebots with the Warwick Valley Middle School Lego league team.
There was fun for all and there were pizzas donated by the Warwick Valley Middle School PTA.
All displays were judged based on objective, data methods, presentation, skill, and creative ability.
The organizers of this year's event were Middle School Principal Georgianna Diopolis, Instructional Technology Specialist Yvonne Koulikov, Middle School Science Master Teacher Tracey Waters, High School Science Master Teacher Lisa Reece, Middle School art teachers Nicole Heller and Julie Cosco, and Robotics teachers Kevin Wilson and Victoria Pennings.
"I am very thankful to all of the administrators, teachers, students, family and community members that worked or attended the STEAM Fair resulting in a successful, fun filled evening," said Koulikov. "Events such as this reflect the fact that our students get exposure to hands-on learning that challenges them to think critically and creatively, and lets them apply important content knowledge in meaningful ways. I am very excited to be part of a district, not only as an employee, but as a parent, with administration and a board of education that have a vision that provides teachers and students with the tools and supports they need to innovate, create, and play an active role in their learning process."
