WARWICK — The Warwick Valley Central School District is considering the implementation of full athletic opportunities for students, beginning in the 2015-16 school year.

The proposed change would encourage athletic participation for all Warwick student-athletes seeking opportunities on athletic teams.

In the past, the opportunity to participate on some athletic teams, such as baseball, softball, soccer, football and basketball, was limited due to roster size restrictions.

Expanding the Wildcat tradition

The proposed practice would provide all interested students the opportunity to participate in athletics by increasing the number of teams.

Freshman teams would return in football and boys and girls basketball, and additional JV teams would be added in baseball, softball and boys and girls soccer.

The change would allow more students to be part of the “Tradition of Wildcat Athletics.”

This new approach would create valuable opportunities for all students who seek the benefits of athletic competition, team membership and team building skills.

Notes WVCSD “The new athletics approach being considered by the district will allow increased student participation," Athletic Director Greg Sirico said in the district's press release announcing the proposal, "and will support continued skill development for underclassman at the freshman and JV level. Students will benefit from additional opportunities to be a part of the WVHS athletic program.”
