Warwick Valley FFA members attend state convention

WARWICK — Members of the Warwick Valley FFA attended the three-day New York State FFA Convention held in Albion. The students participated in the Junior Prepared Speaking CDE, the Veterinary Science Career Development Event (CDE) and the Senior Quiz Bowl contest.
In the Junior Prepared Speaking CDE, Sabina Vail, who had advanced to state level competition, brought her ever-improving speaking skills to the task. Vail, a middle school student, placed third in the state competition. Vail spoke about the FFA and how students engage in service learning experiences.
The Vet Science team included members Anna Cranston, Sarah LaLumiere, Maegan Vonderhorst and Caitlin Zegers. The members were tested on their knowledge of domestic animal breeds including cats, dogs, chickens, swine, sheep and beef and dairy cattle. They also identified parasites and demonstrated their knowledge and skills in solving simple problems a veterinary practice might experience daily.
The team members learned a great deal about what a veterinary deals with in the world of veterinary science.
The Quiz Bowl team did well in the first round but came up short when they faced one of the eventual finalists in the second round. The team was tested on material related to agriculture and FFA. Marie LaLumiere , Dylan Cosgrove, Alex Ronne and Erin Langdale were members of the quiz Bowl team.
Students also had the opportunity to meet other FFA members, tour an ethanol plant and a dairy farm and represent the chapter at the selection of the State FFA Officer team.
The students were coached and accompanied by FFA Advisor Nancy Colgan.
