Warwick Valley Empty Bowls 2012

WARWICK Community members will again come together to fight local hunger on Sunday, May 6, at Warwick Valley High School.
With a slightly different format this year, doors will open at 11 a.m. for music, activities and silent auction.
The meal, served continuously from noon to 3 p.m., includes gourmet soups in bowls made by local potters, fresh bread and dessert.
Local potters have created and donated hundreds of pottery soup bowls. Each attendee will select a bowl for their soup and take it home afterward as a reminder of the event and the cause.
With the assistance of local high school culinary students, chef Erik Johansen of the Iron Forge Inn restaurant in Warwick will create several gourmet soups for the meal, using many local ingredients. A variety of fresh bread and cookies will be donated by local businesses and organizations.
Several high school and middle school musical groups will perform during the event, and music to accompany the meal will be led by music teachers Keely Blaikner and Christy Brown and their students.
The design used on the Empty Bowls 2012 T-shirts and posters was created by Warwick Valley High School art student Eliza Bender, and posters were designed by Art Club members and coordinated by student Patrick Shannon.
T-shirts are being sold for $15 and may be ordered on the web site for pickup at the event or purchased at the Toy Chest.
The community service participation of local high school students is an important aspect of the fund raiser. In addition to student chefs, volunteers from service clubs, coordinated by students Justin Lapidus and Jess Sander, will assist with setup, serving and cleanup.
Empty Bowls 2012 proceeds will benefit five organizations encompassing the entire Town of Warwick: the Back Pack Snack Attack Program, Florida Community Food Pantry, Greenwood Lake Food Pantry, Warwick Community Kitchen in Pine Island and the Warwick Ecumenical Food Pantry.
