WARWICK — On Friday, Jan. 6, members of the Board of Directors of the Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce assembled for their first meeting of the new year.
The meeting was held in the conference room at St. Anthony Community Hospital on the Warwick campus of Bon Secours Charity Health System.
According to Michael Johndrow, executive director of the Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce, it was an important meeting to update the organization's vision, introduce new officers and new Board members, propose events and identify central issues.
Mechelle Casciotta, president of the Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce, said that the chamber remains dedicated to advancing the general welfare and prosperity of the area, improving the business climate, advocating on behalf of its members and offering educational support through seminars, publications and business planning and mentoring.
"We at the chamber," she said, "are excited to have you aboard. To make the most of your membership, I strongly encourage you to get involved and participate in the activities of the chamber. As with anything in life, the more you put into the chamber, the more you will get out of it."
The members of the board agreed to continue sponsoring major annual celebrations such as the annual Community Showcase, along with Applefest, a Taste of Warwick and Home for the Holidays. The chamber will also continue with its educational, networking and mixer events. And there will not be any new committees but there will be changes in committee memberships to encourage fresh ideas.
Johndrow took this opportunity to introduce new members of the Board of Directors who were nominated at last year's annual membership celebration as well as officers selected at the December meeting.
Two new Board of Directors just voted in were the president of Mountain Creek, Bill Benneyan, and Keri Brogan from Crystal Springs.
Members of the chamber helped celebrate new business openings and other changes at 61 ribbon cuttings in 2016. It's 535 members, approximately the same as last year, represent businesses throughout the Warwick Valley ranging from Florida, New York, to Ringwood, New Jersey, and beyond.
