— After sponsoring and volunteering for the February 2012 dinner of the Warwick Community Kitchen, members of the Warwick United Methodist Church Special Gifts Committee decided they wanted to further help the efforts of feeding the community.

Mary Sellers, a member of the committee, contacted Victoria Garloch, founder of the Warwick Community Kitchen, to see how her group could help. They found out that what the Community Kitchen really needed was another steel work table and a three-basin sink.

Through its fundraising efforts, the Special Gifts Committee was able to provide a grant to the Warwick Community Kitchen to purchase these items, which not only increased work space but the sink's three basins conform to the Department of Health guidelines which now allows the Community Kitchen to use metal pots and pans instead of disposables, helping to reduce costs.

Started by Garloch in November 2011 as a Girl Scout Gold Award Project, the Warwick Community Kitchen serves monthly hot meals to families or individuals in need of a meal or in need of fellowship with their neighbors. The next dinner will be Sunday, June 23, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the former Pine Island Elementary School on Schoolhouse Road in Pine Island. This dinner is a continuous seating serving kielbasa and sauerkraut, pierogies, salad, bread and dessert.
