Residents 21 and older will soon be able to purchase legal cannabis right here in Warwick at the town’s very own “Cannabis Campus” at 43 John Hicks Drive, the home of local cannabis company urbanXtracts.

While Albany still works to revise its cannabis laws, farmers, or cultivators, stymied by the slow rollout of dispensary licenses have recently been given the greenlight to offload their surplus product through “Cannabis Grower’s Showcases.” The first such event took place about a month ago in New Paltz, but this latest event will be the first showcase in town.

The showcase gives licensed cannabis growers and processors a platform by which to present their products to the public. Consumers of legal age will then be able to purchase these products from licensed retailers onsite.

Warwick’s cannabis showcase will take place each weekend at urbanXtracts’ cannabis campus, Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., starting this weekend (Sept. 23 and 24) and recurring each weekend thereafter through the end of the year.

Participants include: Good Grades, Route 27 Hopyard LLC, Torrwood Farms (aka Burning Bush), 2JS NY, and urbanXtracts. This event is free and open to those 21 years or older with a valid ID.

Leading up to the event, urbanXtracts also hosted a “Seed to Market Summit” on September 20 in which Warwick Town Supervisor Michael Sweeton, members of the Office of Cannabis Management, and other guests spoke on the state of New York’s cannabis industry.

UrbanXtracts describes itself as a “boutique cannabis company...offering a comprehensive seed-to-market ecosystem that includes the cultivation, processing, manufacturing, and distribution of high-quality cannabis and hemp products.” The company began in 2018 and through an economic redevelopment grant from the Orange County IDA grew its operation by refurbishing an old barn on the former correctional facility property. The barn spans 18,000 square feet and hosts the company’s cannabis manufacturing complex. UrbanXtracts also says it is in the process of expanding its operation with a new 4,000-square-foot greenhouse and cultivation area.
