In his weekly online newsletter, Warwick Town Supervisor Michael P. Sweeton described “the 34th annual Senior Citizen BBQ was a rousing success.”

He continued:

“The weather was perfect, the volunteer servers were plentiful, and the food was great. The over 600 seniors who attended were treated as they should be – like kings and queens!

“The Warwick Rotary, our partner in the event, stepped up big time by securing a grant for us to offset the rising cost so our seniors could attend free of charge. Special thanks to Cindy Vander Platt, Laura Barca and Leo R. Kaytes for spearheading that effort.

“Once again Mike Coleman of Mike’s Custom BBQ donated his time to cook the chicken. R & G Produce donated all of the corn, WVT donated pastries for dessert, and Steve and Jill Pennings donated fresh local peaches! Monetary donations came from our service organizations, American Legion Posts and their Auxiliaries, our Chambers, Town engineering companies, and many Warwick businesses, including our two supermarkets.

“Special thanks to Jeff Rosenberg, the Ministries of Hope, and Tracy of Small Things for their generous support of our seniors.

“Our Department of Public Works should also be commended for how beautiful the park was and how hard they worked to make it all a success. A final very special thank you to Rosemarie Bastanza, Bob Scott, Vince Poloniak and Ben Astorino who without their help this event wouldn’t happen.

“If you are a senior or know of one who has never attended, please make sure you attend next year – the fourth Tuesday in August”
