Warwick Sesquicentennial Committee holds Santa event at Akin's Pharmacy

WARWICK — The children who visited Akin's Pharmacy on Main Street on Saturday, Dec. 23, had a last minute opportunity to visit with Santa and presents their requests for Christmas.
The event was sponsored and organized by the Village of Warwick Sesquicentennial Committee.
Each child received small gifts donated by the Warwick branch of the Greater Hudson Bank, the Warwick Valley Telephone Company and Smart Bucks, the new Dollar Plus store in the Mitchell Corners Shopping Plaza.
Santa, aka lifelong Warwick resident Tim Stocken, donated his time.
And committee member and retired Warwick Police Sergeant George Arnott donated 100 dollar coins engraved with the images of Sacagawea and Susan B. Anthony.
"I wanted to give the kids a keepsake that would also be a history lesson," said Arnott. "Sacagawea was a Shoshone Indian who traveled with the Lewis and Clark expedition and Susan B. Anthony was a women's rights activist who played an important role in the women's suffrage movement."
Committee member and Warwick Valley Dispatch Editor Jennifer O'Connor was on hand wearing her elf costume and selling the new Village of Warwick Sesquicentennial Commemorative Booklet, now available for purchase for $14.95 at Frazzleberries, Newhards, Ye Old Warwick Book Shoppe and Track 7 Postal Center.
The coffee table-style book gives a retrospect of the village's year-long Sesquicentennial celebration and contains photos of events that took place throughout the entire year along with just about anything you would like to know about Warwick.
Anyone living or wintering out of town can purchase the book and Track 7 will ship it at the lower media rate.
