Warwick scouts gather at Gettysburg, Pa.


WARWICK From Aug. 3 through 5, 58 Warwick scouts and family members traveled to Gettysburg, Pa., to tour the Civil War battlefield as well as the Eisenhower farm house.
The scouts camped on the battlefield for two nights; Webelos cub scouts from Pack 177, Den 5 had flew their American flag over the battlefield on Saturday, Aug. 4.
Scouts earned the Gettysburg historic patch and Scout Ranger patch. Cub scouts from Packs 177 and 38 also earned the outdoorsman pin, Junior park ranger patch and Student of My Faith patch.
Scout Robbie Hunter of Troop 45 organized the trip.
With more than 1,300 monuments to the 51,000 Americans that were killed or wounded during that three-day battle 149 year ago, the scouts made a special visit to the monument honoring Orange County soldiers, the Orange Blossom, located near the infamous Devils Den.
The monument honors the Warwick Boys who fought along with the other members of the New York 124th Regiment to preserve the union.
