The Warwick Valley School District held its annual STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) Fair and Art Show/Chair Auction at the Warwick Valley High School on Friday evening, May 10.
This year's STEAM Fair featured elementary schools' STEAM Fair finalists, middle school Lego League and high school Robotics team as well as Mad Science, a make your own yoyo workshop, a K-12 sculpture garden, face painting and photo opportunities.
All displays were judged based on objective, data methods, presentation, skill and creative ability.
The STEAM Fair affords students an opportunity to practice scientific thinking and problem solving through interactive, hands on scientific investigations and inventions.
And students are encouraged to present their research and findings on the computer as well as traditional tri-fold format.
The organizers of this year's event were Middle School Principal Georgianna Diopoulos, Associate Principal Jared Yapkowitz, STEAM Fair Chairperson and Middle School/High School Instructional Technology Specialist Yvonne Koulikov, Art Teacher Julie Cocso, Mentor Chairperson and High School Science Research Teacher Lisa Reece, and Middle School Art Teacher Nicole Sisco.
"I am very thankful to all of the administrators, teachers, students, family and community members that worked or attended the STEAM Fair resulting in a successful, fun filled evening," Koulikov said. "Events such as this reflect the fact that our students get exposure to hands-on learning that challenges them to think critically and creatively, and lets them apply important content knowledge in meaningful ways."
