WARWICK — The food pantries in Greenwood Lake, Florida and Warwick received bonus checks totaling $1,500 at Warwick Valley Rotary Club meetings this month.

The funds were in addition to $l,000 donations made this spring to each of the Greenwood Lake, Florida and Warwick food pantries.

Michelle Carter, the director of the Warwick Ecumenical Food Pantry, said she is seeking support from Rotarians and the Warwick Community to provide Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners for needy Warwick families and seniors living alone.

Dottie Ehlers, long-time volunteer for the Florida Food Pantry, and Mary Jean McHugh, vice president of the Greenwood Lake Food Pantry, accepted donations for their pantries and told the Rotarians that the checks were especially appreciated at this time because food demands are at an all-time high this year with donations of food and money lower than previous years.

Rotary President Neil Sinclair promised ongoing Rotary financial support for the food pantries. The food pantries are among three dozen organizations which receive financial and volunteer assistance from Warwick Rotarians.

Rotary is an international service organization that has some 1.2 million business, professional and community leader members in 34,000 clubs located in more than 200 countries. Warwick Rotarians are members of a 58-member service club which meets each Wednesday noon at the Landmark Inn.

Potential members are welcome to attend.
