WARWICK — The Warwick Police Department will hold its eighth "Coffee with a Cop" of this year from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, June 4, and everyone is invited.
In a departure from previous coffee events, which were held at local eateries, this "Coffee with a Cop" will take place at the Albert Wisner Public Library on McFarland Drive in the Village of Warwick.
"Each week the library offers a program we call, 'Monday Afternoon at the Movies," said Library Director Rosemary Cooper. "Anywhere from 60 to 80 seniors come here just for that program and so we thought hosting a 'Coffee with a Cop' at the Library on a Monday would also offer a good opportunity for these movie-goers to join other residents at this event."
On a national level, the mission of "Coffee with a Cop" is to break down the barriers between police officers and the citizens they serve.
Taking time to meet at neutral locations provides the opportunity for real conversations about issues that matter.
Community residents can sit down with officers and ask questions or share what's on their mind. And in a short time, citizens and police officers get to know each other and discover mutual goals for the communities they live in and serve.
"Coffee with a Cop" events include no agenda or speeches. They are simply designed as an opportunity to ask questions, voice concerns and get to know the officers in your neighborhood.
