Warwick Playground Dreams seeks sponsors for recreational equipment

WARWICK - Warwick Playground Dreams, is a committee of volunteers in the Town of Warwick who are raising funds to rejuvenate the aging playground in Stanley-Deming Park. Working together with the Village of Warwick, the schools and playground design architects, Play By Design, the committee would like to bring a community-designed and community-built ADA-accessible playground to Warwick that will exercise the imaginations of all of Warwick's children as well as their muscles. It's stated mission is to raise the funds for the materials and equipment needed to build the new playground under the supervision of Play By Design's Certified Playground Safety Inspectors.
On Wednesday, Aug. 15, Mayor Michael Newhard, village trustees and members of the Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce joined Hannelore Chambers, president of Warwick Playground Dreams, its members and a group of children to celebrate the new phase of fundraising with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The organization invites all members of the community to leave a lasting legacy and help make this dream a reality by sponsoring a piece of playground equipment.
Starting at just $200, there is a wide variety of components available for sponsorship, ranging from climbing arches and swings up to the barn and castle.
"With over 20 ADA-accessible features and more challenging equipment for older children," said Chambers, "this inclusive playground will foster all children's creative spirit and encourage the free play that is necessary for physical, cognitive and social development."
To help the community follow the project's development, Warwick Playground Dreams recently installed a sign in the park with the help of the Village DPW, displaying a drawing of the new playground as well as a fundraising thermometer.
The funds raised will be used to purchase the materials needed for Build Week scheduled for April 22-28, 2019 when volunteers will build the playground themselves under the supervision of playground architects Play By Design.
Warwick Playground Dreams will need the community's help to raise not just a barn but a fort, a treehouse and even a castle.
"Town residents who might not otherwise cross paths," added Chambers, "will have a chance to work side-by-side to build the playground, strengthening bonds in the community while creating a place of which they can all be proud."
All donations made to Warwick Playground Dreams are tax-deductible.
