Warwick handwriting expert Robert Baier celebrates National Handwriting Day

WARWICK — This coming Wednesday, Jan. 23, is the birthday of John Hancock, the American Revolutionary leader known for his huge and bold signature on the Declaration of Independence.
It is the most recognized signature in the United States and, as a result, it is also celebrated as National Handwriting Day.
One Warwick resident who celebrates that day is Robert Baier (pronounced buyer), who has often been referred to as the "Document whisperer."
Baier is one of America's top forensic handwriting experts. He has taught law enforcement groups and frequently appears in court as an expert witness.
Baier has rendered an opinion on more than 1450 cases and examined more than 30,000 documents.
He has also been a Certified New York State Law Enforcement instructor for general topics including document examination.
Baier regularly trains law enforcement officials and recruits in other states including New Hampshire, Maine and Indiana.
And as an acknowledged specialist in this field, Baier has also appeared as an expert document examiner on Inside Edition and the Smithsonian "Secrets" show on the History Channel.
Baier has also trained all the document examiners of the Jamaican Constabulary Force Document Examination Division and was named a Primary Instructor for the island country.
"I deal with people who have forgery problems every day," said Baier. "A few of the situations we hear about regularly have to do with forged wills, forged deeds, forged checks or altered documents to name just a few."
Baier is the author of "Identity Theft for the College Student" and co-author of "GPS for Success."
