Warwick Farmer's Market opens Sunday

WARWICK — Celebrate Mother's Day this Sunday, May 11, with a trip to the Warwick Valley Farmers' Market on its 21st season opening day.

The ribbon cutting is 9:30 a.m. in the Village of Warwick's South Street Parking Lot.

Town of Warwick Supervisor Michael Sweeton, Mayor Michael Newhard and Michael Johndrow, executive director of the Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce, will be there to cut the ribbon.

The market, which has more than 30 vendors, is sponsored by the Village of Warwick, the Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce and also by the Town of Warwick through various agencies such as police and emergency services when needed.

Most of all, the market is supported by the local citizens who patronize it.

"This is the opening day of our 21st season," said manager Penny Steyer. "And we can honestly say we are moving towards becoming a 21st Century market with a renewed emphasis on locally grown, locally processed food of the highest quality. Our vendors are all hands-on owners who are involved in growing/raising the produce, meats, cheeses, bee products and creating the prepared foods you purchase at our market. We are also featuring local chefs, local organizations and local musicians for our partners on Sundays."

Vendors who sign up for the season offer a wide variety of farm-fresh produce, meats, prepared foods, jams, jellies, baked goods and pastries, flowers, plants, honey, maple syrup, wine and soaps.

The Warwick Valley Farmers Market is open Sundays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May through October.
