WARWICK — On Sunday, May 13, an enthusiastic number of visitors celebrated Mothers’ Day by coming out to select fresh local farm products on the opening day for the 18th season of the Warwick Valley Farmers’ Market.

The market, which usually opens on the same day as the annual Duck Derby, opened one week early. It was an opportunity for families to take the kids out and help them find something special for mom. And tickets for the Duck Derby, scheduled for Sunday, May 20, were also on sale.

Vendors who signed up for the season were stationed as usual to offer a wide variety of farm-fresh produce, meats, prepared foods, jams, jellies, baked goods and pastries, flowers, plants, honey, maple syrup, wine and soaps.

And there was live music with the Gravikord Duo and a chef demonstration with Amuzae Synergy Nutrition.

Situated in the South Street Parking lot the Market showcases many of the region’s finest local farmers and producers who offer a variety of conventional, organic and certified naturally grown produce and fruits.

Mushrooms, chickens, eggs and sausages are also some of the delicacies found at the market every Sunday. And cooking demonstrations by many of Warwick’s finest restaurant chefs feature local produce and provide visitors with an opportunity to sample their special dishes.

This year the Farmers’ Market is initiating another series, Community Partnership, to spotlight local businesses and not-for-profit organizations whose services should be of interest to everyone.

“We invite everyone to visit us each Sunday,” said Manager Kate Eicher.

The Warwick Valley Farmers Market is open Sundays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May through October.
