— The Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce held its 11th annual Warwick Community Showcase on Saturday, May 5, in downtown Warwick.
Thanks in part to near-perfect weather, the event is reported to have drawn record crowds.
The annual event, subtitled "Kicking Off Spring in The Valley" and now held along Main Street and Railroad Avenue, showcased area businesses, both storefront and home-based, introducing local products and services as well as networking opportunities.
Visitors not only had an opportunity to see what 70 vendors had to offer but also enjoy live performances on Railroad Green by Oakie Dokey the Clown, The Rock Underground of Greenwood Lake, D'Antono Dance Academy and the Wire Choir, an unconventional orchestra comprised of students grades 5-12 from the Warwick Valley School District.
There was also a special treat for anyone passing by Frazzleberries gift shop on Main Street.
Owner Mary Beth Schlichting had sewed 30 costumes for the student cast of Annie Jr., a St. Stephen - St. Edward Elementary School presentation scheduled for May 19-20. And members of the cast donned those costumes and entertained passers by with several selections from the play.
Although many of the vendors do not have storefronts in downtown Warwick, the traffic generated by Community Showcase also benefited those that do.
The Warwick Valley Chamber encourages and supports new and existing businesses, offers professional opportunities in the area, facilities new partnerships, offers networking, social and educational opportunities, promotes business growth and tourism.
