Warwick Clock Committee seeks donations for Railroad Green Village Clock

WARWICK — Several years ago a group of citizens who enjoy the beauty and community that Warwick's Railroad Green provides formed a committee to purchase a Village Clock for the Green.

Railroad Green has become a gathering place that hosts summer concerts under the stars, artists displaying their works and Santa greeting children in December.

However, the committee, which was formed in collaboration with community 2000, felt that something was missing.

Towns, villages and hamlets, including Campbell Hall, Goshen, Greenwood Lake, Haverstraw, Sloatsburg, Tuxedo, Ramapo and Nyack, are just a few of the communities that have a Village Clock, adding to the beauty of their downtown areas.

"We felt that Railroad Green would become even more of a showplace with the addition of a village clock," said committee member Bill Signor. "What a wonderful legacy to leave for future generations that will be enjoying the park in the years to come."

The price of the two-sided clock was $23,000. To date the committee members, Signor, Inga Spence and Darlene Brozowski, have raised $16,000, just $7,000 short of their goal.

Warwick citizens are invited to make a tax-deductible donation to the Warwick Clock. And those who contribute $350 or more will have their names engraved on a plaque at the base of the pedestal.

The deadline for sending a donation is April 30 when the clock must be ordered to be in place this summer.
