Warwick Children's Book Festival huge success

WARWICK — The third annual Warwick Children's Book Festival was held at Park Avenue School on Saturday, Sept. 28.

Like Applefest, it can be difficult to accurately estimate the number of people who attended the event because they arrived and left at different times throughout the day.

But nevertheless, it's safe to say that hundreds participated as the Albert Wisner Public Library Foundation played host to more than 50 authors and illustrators for this all day event celebrating children's literacy.

The authors and illustrators were available from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the school gym to chat with parents and children and to autograph their works.

To help make this family-friendly event a day to remember, there was also musical entertainment and activities in the school's cafeteria for young children featuring a juggling performance by Flow Circus along with Tommy Gardner from The Uncle Brothers along with other events.

In addition to face painting and balloon making, Friends of the Library volunteers offered "story time" sessions for the children every half-hour.

"We had another great turnout for this," said Library Director and event organizer Rosemary Cooper. "And we thank everyone who participated including all the members of our committee, our volunteers and sponsors and the participating Warwick merchants. We are especially grateful to the Albert Wisner Public Library Foundation and to Glenn P. and Susan D. Dickes."

Program sponsors included Donna Applegate and Jonah Mandelbaum, the Village of Warwick, ShopRite of Warwick and anonymous donors.

A special Warwick Children's Book Festival publication in The Warwick Advertiser was sponsored by Ye Olde Warwick Book Shoppe, St. Anthony Community Hospital, ShopRite of Warwick and Leo Kaytes Ford.
