WARWICK — From the outside, it looks like a charming shop with an artsy feel.
Once inside, there’s no mistaking this is a place for creativity to blossom.
The Warwick Board & Brush Creative Studio, located at 7 West St., is holding its grand opening Saturday, Oct. 20, from 3 to 5 p.m. with gift bags for the first 50 people and a chance to win a sign-making party for 10 valued at $650, plus finger food and champagne rounding out the afternoon festivities.
The grand opening event is free and open to the public. For more on the new studio and to register for a workshop to create your own home décor piece of art, log on to boardandbrush.com/warwick.
You need not be a master craftsperson to sign up at the Warwick studio, with novices feeling right at home at Board & Brush thanks to the instructor-led format of the workshops during which attendees are guided through the ins and outs of power tools, paint, art and assembly, with all materials supplied by the studio.
Each workshop lasts about three hours and attendees can select from hundreds of design templates, with new ones added each month.
The company works with top graphic designers around the country to create the designs, most with a vintage farmhouse look.
A workshop cost is $65 and pre-registration is required.
Owners and friendsThe studio is owned by Theresa Episcopio and Christine Russell, friends who each bring their own touches of talent to the venture. Episcopio, who also owns a dental practice with her husband, is leaving her work as dental assistant to focus on Board & Brush. She’s a mom, self-described DIYer and an active volunteer in her hometown.
“I wanted to show my daughter what hard work can achieve and I really wanted her to see strong independence as a goal,” said Episcopio.
Russell, born and raised in the Bronx, is the creative type, with an intriguing background in art and design, having created set designs for reality shows including “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” and “Kitchen Nightmares.”
She’s owned her own painting business for 18 years, starting out with murals and furniture and more recently evolving to painting and glazing cabinets.
The Warwick Board & Brush is located in the heart of downtown with lots of shops and restaurants nearby. The studio occupies space in a historic building with lots of character, including brick facade, wood floors, an arched wall, and large windows to let in plenty of light.
