Warwick Advertiser straw poll shows Trump's the one

Voters in Warwick are supporting The Donald and feeling the Bern.
A straw poll conducted by this newspaper over the past week shows that a majority of voters from Florida, Greenwood Lake, Pine Island, Sugar Loaf and Warwick are planning to support Donald Trump, the Republican front-runner, in the April 19 primary.
The poll also showed local voters will buck the trend and support Bernie Sanders over Hillary Clinton.
While there has been extensive statewide polling in recent weeks, as New York's usually irrelevant presidential primary has taken on unusual importance, there has been little insight into the leanings Warwick area votes.
The Warwick Advertiser asked readers to indicate their choice by email, telephone and through the web. There also was one snail-mail entry.
Recent statewide polls indicate that Clinton and Trump will carry New York.

Trump trumps
In our voters' snapshot, 80 percent of voters say they are for Trump, compared to 17 percent for John Kasich and 3 percent for Ted Cruz.
Many of our readers also offered some insight into reasons for their choices. Here's a sampling from Trump supporters:
• “I believe that he is not a bought and sold politician. He is running because he loves America &wants to see her restored to it's former greatness.”
• “Because he is a strong leader and not an establishment politician tied to special interests and lobbies, I am a frustrated Republican that is tired of been let down by our representatives.”
• “Not my first choice but will go against the establishment. Hillary should be in jail. Bernie is a socialist and Ted has no chance.”
“Mr. Trump understands that America is an exceptional place and will work to regain some its dignity after a terrible eight years of 'blaming America.'”
New York is seen as an important contest for Trump, after a recent stumble in Wisconsin. New York's 95 delegates are imperative if he has any hope of winning the 1,237 electoral delegates needed to clinch the party's nomination in advance of its convention this summer in Cleveland.
'Feel the Bern'
Meanwhile, Sanders earned 52 percent of the straw poll, while Clinton carried 48 percent.
Here's a sampling of comments from those Warwickians supporting the two:
For Sanders:
“Honest trustworthy and our best hope.”
“Bernie Sanders is a progressive who most closely matches my social values and economic policies. His honesty and integrity are qualities that I admire and are lacking in all of the other presidential candidates. Yes, I'm feeling the Bern!”
For Clinton:
“Granted, I'm a Democrat, but the Republicans are outstandingly vile and terrifying this year. Clinton over Sanders because she's about 20 times more qualified, knowledgeable and can work with reasonable Republicans, while Sanders could get absolutely nothing passed.”
“She's the only candidate that sincerely cares about women's issues and their health. She's smarter than all the men candidates put together.”
