The Warwick Valley Quilters’ Guild has awarded its 2019 Phyllis Klein Scholarship to Abigail Citarella.
Abigail will graduate from Warwick Valley School District.
She began sewing at age 10 when she received a sewing machine for her birthday.
Abigail has worked as a summer intern at the Surflight Theater in Beach Haven, N.J., where she assisted the costume designers with alterations, sewing accessories and organizing costumes.
Abigail submitted a picture of a Newspaper Dress as her sample. The dress was designed and constructed in the Warwick Valley High School Fashion Design class. It was intended to mimic a fitted corset with boning in the bodice and the bottom of the dress folded into fans to create a sense of movement.
She will be attending SUNY Purchase pursuing a BFA major in Theatre Production and Design.
"We wish her much success in her future endeavors," the Guild noted in its press release announcing the scholarship award.
