WARWICK — Wadeson Home Center, located at 60 Forester Ave. in Warwick, celebrated the grand opening of its Purina feed dealership on Saturday, Nov. 3.

Purina Mills offers hundreds of products for horses, cattle, goats, swine, poultry, rabbits, game animals, exotics and many more products sold through a network of independent dealers and farm and fleet retailers.

On Saturday there were numerous activities and refreshments for visitors. And everyone had an opportunity to win a raffle for a grand prize choice of a snowblower, 3,250-watt generator or $500 gift card and second and third place prizes of $200 and $100 gift cards.

Participants in the celebration included Boy Scout Troop 45, FFA, Pat’s Pals and the Middle School Odyssey of the Mind.

The first-place raffle prize was won by Susan and Andrew Goodman, who selected the generator. Second-place $200 gift card winner was Mary Mansfield and third-place $100 gift card went to Peggy Gavan. All of the winners are Warwick residents.

Earlier this year Brad and Melissa Pingel announced that they would be closing their longtime family business, Warwick Valley Feed and Grain.

Bill and Marilyn Wadeson, owners of Wadeson Home Center, and their son Craig, who manages the firm, decided it was time to expand the store’s line of products to include feed and grain. At that time the company already carried a large selection of pet foods and other similar items.

“We’re thrilled to have been appointed a Purina Feed dealership,” said Bill Wadeson. “And we’re happy that we can carry their fine products for our customers.”

Filling the vacuum caused by the closing of Warwick Valley Feed and Grain has an interesting historical twist.

Wadeson Home Center, now on Forester Avenue, first opened its doors in 1930 at 29 West St. the same address as Warwick Valley Feed and Grain. At that time it was H. Quackenbush & Sons with Howard Quackenbush, who was Bill Wadeson’s grandfather, as proprietor.
