Voters approve Albert Wisner Public Library $1.6 million budget
WARWICK — Voters in the Warwick Valley School district approved a $1.6 million budget for the Albert Wisner Public Library on Tuesday.
The unofficial results for the tax levy vote are 399 yes, 57 no.
Residents throughout the town of Warwick will pay $4.11 per $1,000 of assessed value.
Residents of Chester within the Warwick School District will pay $0.98 per $1,000 of assessed value.
The difference in rates is because Chester and Warwick assess values differently. The town assessment is approximately 25 percent of market value while Chester properties are nearly equal to market value.
Homeowners in Warwick with an assessed value of $50,000 will pay approximately $205.50 per year for their library tax, an increase of $4.50 over the course of the year.
Homeowners in Chester with an assessed value of $200,000 will pay approximately $196 per year for their library tax, an increase of $4 for the year.
In addition to the tax levy, two trustees were elected. Colleen Larsen and Amanda Tarallo, both appointed in February to fill two unexpired terms which end on June 30, 2019, were elected to full five-year terms beginning July 1, 2019.
Larsen received 427 votes; Tarallo received 404 votes.
The Albert Wisner Public Library is located on McFarland Drive and offers programs and activities for children, teens and adults. Programs include language classes, book group, math club, art exhibits, story times, computer classes, musical performances and much more.
In 2016, Warwick’s library was name the best small library in the country by Library Journal.
