Volunteers with Warwick’s Friendly Visitor Program are ready to help
WARWICK — Volunteers with the Town of Warwick’s Friendly Visitor Program are ready to help.
The program will link trained volunteers with seniors and adults with disabilities in the Town and Village of Warwick, the Village of Greenwood Lake, the Village of Florida and the hamlet of Pine Island.
People who live alone and enjoy their independence may occasionally need assistance to manage in their own home. Volunteers can assist by providing:
• Transportation to appointments;
• Help with grocery shopping;
• Home visits;
• Periodic phone calls;
• Clerical assistance;
• Playing a card game, reading or chatting.
• There is no charge for the service.
TrainingVolunteers participate in four hours of training and are then matched to a neighbor in need for any of the services listed above. The volunteer may provide a regularly scheduled service with a neighbor or perhaps a one-time or occasional assistance.
The program coordinator will ensure that the neighbor and volunteer match is one that works well for both individuals.
If you are someone who could benefit from the Friendly Visitor Program, simply call the Town Hall at 986-1124, option #1 for more information. Also, if you are interested in becoming a volunteer, the same number will get you information in this regard. The Town of Warwick website offers more information as well.
The Friendly Visitor Program is made possible through a partnership with the Orange County Office of the Aging, Jewish Family Service of Orange County, and the Town of Warwick.
Next• On Aug. 2, an information table on the Friendly Visitor Program will be set up at ShopRite provided construction concerns allow for safe access.
