Vince Poloniak receives service award



MIDDLETOWN — Cornell Cooperative Extension presented its 2012 Distinguished Service Award to Vincent Poloniak of the Village of Florida during the group’s 97th annual corporate meeting and awards dinner honoring volunteers, staff, and electing new community people to the board of directors earlier this month.
The Distinguished Service Award is presented to an individual or individuals who demonstrate support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and its mission through hours of volunteer time.
Cornell Cooperative Board member John McCarey presented to Poloniak certificates of recognition from County Executive Edward Diana, the Orange County Legislature, Assemblywoman Annie Rabbit and Assemblywoman Nancy Calhoun. Poloniak also received a special recognition from Supervisor Michael Sweeton on behalf of the Town of Warwick.
Friends of Extension
The 2012 Friends of Extension Award, which is presented to an individual or a group who demonstrate support for Cornell Cooperative Extension and actively participates in extension programs/activities, was given to James and Suzanne Bergen of Slate Hill.
The Bergens also received certificates of recognition from the county executive, Orange County Legislature and Assemblywomen Rabbit and Calhoun.
Lifetime Achievement
The 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Tekla “Tillie” Gailie and her family from Chester. This award is presented to an individual or individuals who demonstrate support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and its mission through years of volunteer time.
She, too, also received certificates of recognition from the county executive , the county Legislature and the assemblywoman. Town of Chester Supervisor Steve Neuhaus also presented Gailie with a special certificate of recognition for all her years of volunteering.
Highlighting these achievements were Board President Susanne Wasson and Executive Director Lucy T. Joyce.
Board of Directors
During the business portion of the meeting local residents were elected to the Board of Directors. Elected to serve three-year terms were:
Alfred Gibbs, dairy farmer from Slate Hill.
Nolly Climes, program director for Rehabilitation Support Services from Campbell Hall.
John A. Russell, C.P.A. with The First National Bank of Jeffersonville from Port Jervis.
Robin White, Real Estate Broker with Better Homes & Gardens Rand Realty from Middletown.
