— On Sunday June 11, Boy Scout Troop 477 awarded the rank of Eagle Scout to two young men for the first time in the troop’s history.
Justin Endrikat and Kyle Bower received the highest rank in Scouting at a special ceremony at Grace Lutheran Church in Greenwood Lake. The event was well-attended by family members, friends and fellow Scouts. Service organizations and dignitaries from the Greenwood Lake and Warwick area were also present.
Justin Endrikat is the oldest son of Brian and Lisa Endrikat of Pine Island. He attends Warwick Valley High School and is an active student who enjoys wrestling and many outdoor activities.
Justin has a younger brother Hunter who is also a Scout in Troop 477.
For his Eagle Scout service project Justin made enhancements and improvements to the Restdale Park Pet Cemetery, which is run by the Warwick Valley Humane Society.
The cemetery was all but abandoned and needed a lot of attention. Justin and many Scout volunteers refurbished the cemetery and added a handmade wooden bench for visitors to use.
Materials were donated by many local businesses to aid with the project.
Kyle Bower is the oldest son of Steve and Karen Bower of the Village of Greenwood Lake. Kyle attends Warwick Valley High School and is active in rowing and is employed as a lifeguard. Kyle has a younger brother Brian, who is a Life Scout in Troop 477.
Kyle’s Eagle Service Project was to improve the gazebo and surrounding area located next to the Senior Citizen Center in the Village of Greenwood Lake. Kyle and a band of volunteers replaced the roofing shingles on the gazebo, added reinforcements to the benches, painted the gazebo and improved the landscaping.
At the ceremony at Grace Lutheran Church, special presentations and proclamations were made to the new Eagle Scouts by guests and dignitaries.
Justin and Kyle made pin presentations to each of their parents to thank them for their years of support in scouting. Additionally,
Kyle and Justin also made “mentor pin” presentations to several adults that have supported and influenced them along their path to Eagle.
Boy Scout Troop 477 was chartered in September 2010 and Winslow Therapeutic Riding Center is the Charter Organization for the troop.
