The Warwick Merchant's Guild has scheduled its 22nd annual "Ladies Night Out" for Thursday, Aug, 22, from 3 to 9 p.m. in downtown Warwick.

Once again the event will benefit Safe Homes of Orange County, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to eliminate all forms of domestic violence through education, outreach and provision of services to individuals and families affected by domestic abuse.

"Ladies Night Out" is one of the most popular summer events attracting people from near and far, as downtown Warwick buzzes with activity and excitement.

The Warwick Merchants Guild invites everyone, but in particular, the ladies, to come downtown and indulge themselves with specials offered by participating businesses.

"Ladies Night Out,"said Event Chair Corrine Iurato, manager of Peck's Wines and Spirits, "is a night to join with friends and family for an evening of summer fun whether strolling through stores offering extended shopping hours, tasting the flavors of the fine restaurants, dancing to the music of our DJ, or simply relaxing at one of Warwick's many outdoor cafes."

One of the highlights of "Ladies Night Out" is the crowning of a "Queen for a Day" by Mayor Michael Newhard. The long tradition recognizes a special lady and her generous spirit, caring heart, and selfless nature based on nominations.

And the Queen will receive a basket overflowing with gifts provided by local businesses.

During the celebration Railroad Green will be hosting several activities such as a self-defense demonstration, workout demonstration, and other dance demonstrations.

In addition to the many specialty boutique stores in Warwick, there will also be outside street vendors selling gifts, goods and services. The focus is on women's health, fitness, beauty and fashion.

Ladies Night out and the crowning of the Queen has grown and become so popular that people have been known to reschedule their summer vacations to not miss it.
