Twelve primaries set for Tuesday

GOSHEN — There are 12 primary elections next Tuesday, Sept. 10, in the Town of Warwick to determine candidates running for town justice and town board as well as two seats on the Orange County Legislature.

The primaries will determine candidates in four contests in November’s general election:

Four primaries for town justice.

Three primaries for town board (two seats available).

Two primaries for Orange County Legislative District 3.

Three primaries for Orange County Legislative District 8.

Candidates typically look to have their names on more than one line on the ballot to appeal to a broader range of voters.

Primary voting is limited to voters registered to particular political parties. For instance, only Warwick residents registered with the county Board of Elections as Republican may vote in the GOP primary for town justice while only residents registered as Conservative may cast ballots for the Conservative primary for town justice.

Also note that voters who view themselves as independent, or without specific party affiliation, cannot vote in the Independence Party primaries. The Independence Party is a specific political organization.

Polls in Orange County are open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Call the Orange County Board of Elections in Goshen at 845-291-2444 if you have questions about where to vote.
