The great egg hunt at Pennings Farm always draws a crowd

WARWICK — Just before noon on Saturday, April 12, crowds of youngsters and their parents gathered at Pennings Farm Market just off Route 94 South.

They were anxiously awaiting the start of the annual Easter Egg Hunt co-sponsored by the Warwick Lions Club and Pennings Farm Market.

That morning, volunteers and Pennings' employees had placed thousands of candies and chocolate eggs in the fields behind the market and leading up to the apple orchard.

"We filled loads of wheelbarrows to help us take all the plastic eggs and candies up the hill," said Jill Pennings. "And we're lucky this is such a beautiful spring day. It's fun to watch the children."

Members of the Warwick Lions Club also assisted with parking and the organization of the popular event.

The children were lined up in three age groups: Age three and under, ages four to six and ages seven and older. Moms and dads were permitted to help their toddlers.

After last minute instructions and a 10-second countdown by Steve Pennings, owner of the farm market, the children were off and hunting, not only for the ordinary goodies, but also for special "golden eggs."

Each one of these contained notes entitling the lucky child to an Easter goodie basket. Some of the other plastic eggs also contained notes for special prizes such as an ice cream treat.

During the event, the Easter Bunny was also on hand to pose for photos with the children.
