    A huge tent covers the parking lot of St. Stanislaus Church in Pine Island and a large American Flag waves in the background as the church gets its 100th Anniversery celebration under way at 5PM this afternoon.

A 20-foot by 40-foot American flag is raised 150 feet above Pine Island for the St. Stanislaus 100th anniversary celebration on this coming Saturday afternoon. For the past five years Pine Island’s Randy Blenis of Ropeway Construction and Crane Service has donated his time and Terex Boom Truck to raise this huge American Flag over such events as the Pine Island Summerfest, the fire department anniversary and now the St. Stanislaus celebration. The flag, which can be seen for miles flying high above the tree tops, has become synonymous with big evens happening in the hamlet. Blenis has been asked to donate his flag-raising services to other communities also but prefers to keep it local to his home community of Pine Island.
