'The Cake Boss' is donating the cake for Orange County Land Trust anniversary

SUGAR LOAF — With a good word put in by Satin Fine Foods of Chester, Chef Buddy Valastro, a.k.a. The Cake Boss from the hit TLC reality television series of the same name, has agreed to donate a specially created cake to celebrate the Orange County Land Trust’s 20-year anniversary at a benefit reception to be held Friday, June 7 at Bear Mountain Inn.
“Buddy and his staff are delighted to create a special cake to celebrate this landmark occasion for the Land Trust, one which signifies two decades of saving open space in Orange County,” said Kevin O’Reilly, president and founder of Satin Fine Foods in Chester, the leading commercial producer of rolled fondant in North America and a supplier of Carlo’s Bakery, the Cake Boss’s Hoboken, N.J., bake shop, with a second bakery now open in Ridgewood.
“We are thrilled to have the Cake Boss design and create a special cake for us,” said Marlena Lange, president of the Orange County Land Trust. “We have no idea what he has in mind, but we’re sure it will be fantastic. We’ll be as surprised as everyone else at our benefit reception,” she added.
Valastro is an accomplished fourth generation baker. His award-winning designs have been featured in bridal and baking magazines, The New York Times, and on television; most namely The Food Network. He and his cakes have also been featured on The Today’s Show, Good Morning America, The View, and HBO’s hit series, The Sopranos.
Satin Fine Foods produces Satin Ice rolled fondant, a special, European-style cake icing, for Valastro’s bake shops, his commercial bakery and other premier bakeries worldwide. A retail pack of rolled fondant will be available soon in grocery stores for the individual consumer.
According to O’Reilly, the Cake Boss will have the cake delivered to the Bear Mountain Inn on June 7, the evening of the reception. About 300 people are expected to attend the event, which honors the accomplishments of the land trust, and recognizes the land trust’s past board of directors and its conservation partners, with a special tribute to land trust founder and Orange County’s first county executive, Louis V. Mills, who passed away in December, 2012.
Special guests include Orange County’s newly elected Congressman, the Honorable Sean Patrick Maloney, who will deliver opening remarks.
Conservation partners to be recognized include the Town of Warwick, Orange County and Orange County Department of Planning.
The celebration will include cocktail-style dining, local wines and cocktails, and a silent auction with items ranging from an African Safari, a weekend getaway to Nantucket, to local food and art.
In addition, an award winning 18K gold pendant by Sugar Loaf jeweler Rachel Bertoni worth $2,850 will be raffled that evening. Only 100 raffle tickets will be sold, with tickets on sale now and at the event. Music will be provided by jazz guitarist Mike Jackson.
Tickets are still available and are $150 each. They can be purchased by calling the Land Trust at 845-469-0951, x14.
