Members of the Temple Beth Shalom congregation celebrated Lag B’Omer along with others from around Orange County during a day of study and fun, on Sunday, May 18, at Rosmarins Day Camp in Monroe. Lag B’Omer is a joyous Jewish holiday that falls between the holidays of Passover and Shavuot.

Classes for adults were taught by Rabbi Rebecca Shinder from Temple Beth Shalom, Rabbi Garry Loeb from Monroe Temple Beth-El, Rabbi Larry Freedman from Temple Beth Jacob in Newburgh, Rabbi Joel Schwab from Temple Sinai in Middletown and Rabbi Philip Weintraub from Congregation Agudas Israel in Newburgh.

Religious School students from the entire county played a game of Haganah, an exciting way to explore the last days before the creation of the State of Israel. A special PJ library program Arts & Craft program was available for children 8 years and under. Each school then held its own end-of-year closing ceremony. Then, everyone gathered for a cookout, as musicians provided a celebratory concert.

Temple Beth Shalom members hail from Chester, Florida, Goshen, Greenwood Lake, Monroe, Middletown, Warwick, Washingtonville and other locales in New York, as well as neighboring towns in New Jersey.

The Lag B'Omer program/luncheon was sponsored by the Orange County Rabbis and the Jewish Federation of Greater Orange County.
