Take the 'Polar Plunge'

WARWICK — It's time again to go jump in the lake.
And although there may or may not be ice to break through for this event, one thing is certain: The water in Greenwood Lake will be cold.
At 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 18, the Warwick Valley Humane Society will host its fourth annual "Polar Plunge" fund-raising event for its shelter's homeless residents.
Last year's event raised $3,200.
The event, somewhat similar to those New Year's Day polar plunges held at Coney Island, will take place at Greenwood Lake's Breezy Point Inn, 620 Jersey Ave., during its annual "Winter Carnival," Friday, Feb. 16, to Sunday, February 18.
The Breezy Point Restaurant has been sponsoring the Winter Carnival weekend, always jam packed with activities, entertainment, friends and fun for 18 years.
This year's schedule of all-day events will soon be posted on the restaurant's Website, www.breezypointinn.com, but in the past they have featured a beer-tasting dinner buffet, contests, live musical entertainment, a torch-lighting ceremony, a Miss Winter Carnival and more.
This year the Polar Plunge is scheduled for Sunday, February 18, at 3 p.m. with registration at 2 p.m. You can also register online at www.ACTIVE.com or by Paypal at www.wvhumane.org
Registration is $25 per person, 18 years and older and the plunger must wear closed shoes.
The first 25 registrants will receive free caps. And there will be a prize for the participant who raises the most money in sponsors.
"All proceeds from this event benefit our 'pound pets,'" said Suzyn Baron, president of the Warwick Valley Humane Society. " This is our first fund raiser of 2018 and we are so grateful to Breezy Point for having us at their Winter Carnival and to the members of the police, fire and EMS who will ensure that the event is a safe and fun time for all."
