— This year's annual "Take a Kid Fishing Day," sponsored by the Warwick Valley Rod & Gun Club, has been scheduled for Saturday, May 4.

Members of the Warwick Valley Rod & Gun Club, incorporated in 1945, will again stock approximately 400 trout in Wawayanda Creek on Baird Farm.

The farm and mill waterfall on Baird's Lane near Sanfordville Road in Warwick is so picturesque that it has often served as a backdrop for television and print media commercials.

"Take a Kid Fishing Day," is open to young anglers, ages five to 14, who live in the Town of Warwick. The event, organized by club members for youngsters accompanied by their parents or guardians, is provided for those boys and girls who do not have access to a stream or the opportunity to enjoy the wildlife and environment surrounding their community.

And weather is seldom a problem.

While most people are happy with sunshine and mild temperatures, many believe the fishing is better when it's cloudy and wet. But no matter what the weather forecast is, the kids are bound to have a fun and memorable experience. So everyone eligible is urged to participate, rain or shine.

"Take a Kid Fishing Day," will be held between 9:30 a.m. and 12 noon.

Each child is instructed to bring his or her own fishing tackle. A child, however, does not have to catch a fish to win one of the prizes awarded at the close of the event. Since it is not a contest, it has been the practice for the club to award a prize to each participating child, whether the child has caught a fish or not. In the past, the prizes have included fishing rod and reel combos, tackle boxes, lures and other outdoor recreation items not necessarily related to fishing.

The success of this event has been due in large measure to the support of individuals and local retailers who donate cash or articles which are related to fishing or the outdoors in general.

As usual, The Warwick Advertiser will be on hand to photograph the event. Among many other subjects, we will be looking for the smallest kid with the biggest fish.
