Sustainable Warwick to host forum on Indian Point

WARWICK — Local community organization Sustainable Warwick will host an informational forum on the Indian Point Nuclear Power Facility on Thursday, May 15, from 7:30 to 9: p.m. at Warwick Town Hall.

'As the Crow Flies'
The 40-year old Indian Point plant is located about 22 miles from Warwick. It is currently being considered for re-licensing by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

This process has brought attention to power needs and to the safety of the plant and its potential impact on local communities.

The forum is entitled "As the Crow Flies: What Warwick Needs to Know about Indian Point."

The program will have a presenter from the nuclear power industry speaking for relicensing and a presenter from Riverkeeper taking the other side.

The goal is to enable attendees to evaluate the full spectrum of ideas that surround the issue of relicensing.

Each speaker will have half an hour to present, followed by a half hour question and answer period.

Sustainable Warwick, an arm of Community 2000, is a local community organization that addresses a wide range of sustainability issues at the local level. Its goal is to increase public awareness of ways to maintain a quality of life and a vibrant local economy while ensuring sustainable use of resources.

This is the second forum sponsored by Sustainable Warwick. The first was in 2012 on the topic of hydraulic fracturing (fracking).
