Sustainable Warwick to host EPA waste expert at Feb. 21 meeting

WARWICK — Rachel Chaput of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Sustainable Materials Management program will be the featured speaker at the Sustainable Warwick meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 21.
The meeting is at 7:30 p.m. in the Warwick Senior Center, 132 Kings Highway (behind Town Hall).
The EPA Sustainable Materials Management program strives to reduce the amount of municipal solid waste entering landfills. This not only reduces problems with landfills, but also saves municipalities money.
To accomplish this goal, the agency relies heavily on two voluntary, free partnership programs:
• WasteWise ((https://www.epa.gov/smm/wastewise); and
• Food Recovery Challenge (https://www.epa.gov/sustainable-management-food/food-recovery-challenge-frc).
Chaput will explain these programs and how participation in them could assist Warwick in its sustainability goals.
Chaput has worked for the US EPA Region 2 (New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands) for 25 years and recently moved to Warwick.
This program was orginally scheduled for January but postposed due to weather.
