Sugar Loaf United Methodist Church to host pet blessings in October

SUGAR LOAF — Sugar Loaf United Methodist Church is inviting all of membes of the community - two-legged, four-legged, winged, scaled or gilled - to its annual Blessings of the Animals from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20.
The blessing will be at the church on Kings Highway in the Hamlet of Sugar Loaf.
“To bless the animals is a time to be thankful for that particular animal and to seek the animal’s continued good health and enjoyment for the owner,” the Rev. Lynne Severance, pastor of the church, said the press release announcing the blessing.
“We will have a blessing of the pets to care for that part of God’s creation that offers us so much in the way of love, companionship, joy and protection,” she said.
There will be a short service, followed by refreshments for the two-legged and four-legged guests.
Each pet will receive an individual blessing and a certificate.
Cans of unexpired, ground cat food or dog biscuits or cleaning supplies are the donations requested to attend the event. Donated items and any proceeds will go to supporting Warwick Valley Humane Society.
All dogs must be on a leash and any other pets must be caged.
Also at the event will be Heifer International’s Living Gift Market where the “purchase” of sponsored animals helps feed hungry families around the world. This market is an opportunity to sponsor an animal as a gift for birthdays, Christmas, Hanukkah or anniversaries.
All faiths are welcome to the event, as are all pets.
