GREENWOOD LAKE — Last Saturday the freshman class of the George F. Baker STEM Academy participated in Greenwood Lake’s “Haunted Trails” Halloween attraction organized by the Greenwood Lake Merchant’s Guild.

The class took on the project as part of their Freshman Foundations class to introduce students to many of the skills that are incorporated in the school’s new STEM Academy.

Students were presented with the challenge of creating every aspect of scenes in the Haunted Trails attraction.

This project incorporated an analysis of a problem (producing the attractions), identification of resources, developing and implementing plans, and analysis of results.

The students broke out into teams to write scripts, build sets and costumes, create lighting and sounds effects, act, advertise, provide oversight and internal and external communications, and analyze results.

Throughout the process students gained valuable collaboration, leadership, organization, communication, planning, and analytical skills.

They also were pretty scary, too.
