St. Stephen’s Educational Trust hosts 22nd annual cocktail party.

WARWICK — On Thursday evening, May 17, approximately 85 guests attended the St. Stephen – St. Edward Educational Trust 22nd annual cocktail party at the historic Landmark Inn.
Proceeds from the event after expenses were $5,300, which will go to the trust's Edward Scharfenberger Education Fund, named after its founder, to help with needs-based tuition emergencies.
Last year, the fund also paid for CPR certification for all staff members at the school.
One of the favorite attractions each year is the variety and quality of the appetizers created by Mike DiMartino, award-winning chef/owner of the Landmark Inn.
Richard Wiggins, a nightclub style singer/pianist, also returned to provide the musical entertainment for the evening.
Guests at this year's event included Town of Warwick Justice Peter Barlet and prominent business leaders and professionals along with the principal, staff, parents and friends of St. Stephen - St. Edward School.
Founding Trustee Terry Gavan served as emcee. She praised the Rev. Jack Arlotta, pastor of the Church of St. Stephen, the First Martyr, and all the clergy, past and present along with the principal and teachers at the tuition-supported parochial school.
Arlotta, pastor of the Church of St. Stephen, the First Martyr, thanked all those who have supported the St. Stephen – St. Edward Educational Trust throughout the years. He paid a special tribute to Edward Scharfenberger who founded the Educational Trust in 1992 and then introduced members of the Board of Directors.
Mary Juliano, president of the St. Stephen's Educational Trust, also thanked members of the community who are not parishioners but have continued to generously support the Educational Trust.
Later in the evening Elaine Scharfenberger, 97, was invited to cut the traditional cake for all the guests.
