S.S. Seward artist creates winning design

FLORIDA — Cortnie Plocharzcyk, a student at S.S. Seward High School and BOCES Art and Design Academy, created the winning design in the Gillinder Glass Store’s second annual “Design a Sun Catcher” contest.
This year’s theme was honoring volunteers.
As first-prize winner, Cortnie was invited to the Gillinder Glass factory in Port Jervis to press the first sun catcher using a mold of her design made by the factory’s mold department. She also received several of the sun catchers that she pressed herself.
Cortnie’s sun catchers are now available for purchase at the Gillinder Glass Store.
In keeping with the theme of honoring volunteers, Gillinder Glass is offering 10 percent off this special sun catcher from now until July 31 to customers who identify themselves as volunteers in an organization.
