South Street water main break repairs in progress

WARWICK — The water surrounding the Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce caboose office on South Street has been the result of a difficult-to-locate water main break under the adjacent railroad right-of-way.

But help is on the way. On Friday, March 2, traffic was delayed as crews installed shut-off valves on both sides of the railroad right-of-way to isolate the leak.

It’s a complicated problem involving the Village of Warwick, the Railroad Company and an outside contractor with expertise in railroad right-of-way digs to quickly resolve the problem. But according to Mayor Michael Newhard, those repairs will soon be completed.
