— A community solar array is coming to the Seligmann homestead in Sugar Loaf.
This project of the Orange County Citizens Foundation, in partnership with Local B Corporation and solar company SunCommon, will provide clean solar power to about 60 homes in the area. Members get first dibs, the foundation says.
"This won’t be your typical solar array," says the foundation. "Wildflowers will be planted throughout the field and all around the array, to nourish and support our ever-important pollinator population. Visitors will be able to access the site via a walking path to enjoy the flowers and bask in the clean energy."
Foundation members will have the first opportunity to sign up until Sept. 15, at which time the foundation will open membership to the public. The only requirement is that your utility company is Orange & Rockland. Spaces are limited, so anyone interested should get in touch with SunCommon at gosolar@suncommon.com or 866-452-7652.
The foundation will host an informational session at the Seligmann Studio, 23 White Oak Drive, in Sugar Loaf at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 20, at 6 p.m. It will lay out details of this special opportunity to secure community solar energy for homes and businesses.
"Is it serendipity, luck, or fate that we found each other? Could be, and we are so happy we did," says the foundation. "We are excited to work with our outstanding solar partner, SunCommon, on this project to grow solar in the Hudson Valley, to help members of our community to save money, and to protect our environment."
