Shawangunk Wine Trail members take home more than 30 medals

RHINEBECK —Shawangunk Wine Trail’s member wineries were major winners at the Hudson Valley Wine & Spirits Competition on Sept. 7 in Rhinebeck, taking home more than 30 medals among them.
The Shawangunk Wine Trail’s biggest winners included Baldwin Vineyards, awarded Best Fruit Wine and Double Gold for its Trilogy wine; Benmarl Winery, which won Double Gold for its 2012 Semi Dry Riesling; and Robibero Family Vineyards, awarded Double Gold for its 2012 Cabernet Franc.
Brotherhood, America’s Oldest Winery, won Best of Sparkling and Gold for their B Sparkling wine, Best in White Wine for their 2012 Riesling, and a Double Gold for their 2012 Riesling.
Applewood Winery, Brimstone Hill Vineyard, Glorie Farm Winery, Warwick Valley Winery & Distillery/Black Dirt Distillery and Whitecliff Vineyard & Winery also took home multiple awards for their wines.
The Hudson Valley Wine & Spirits Competition, in its eighth year, took place on Sept. 7 at the Hudson Valley Wine Festival at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds in Rhinebeck. The competition features a blind tasting process and judges from a wide range of the wine industry, including sommeliers, wine writers, critics, educators and retailers. It is open to any wine or spirits produced and bottled in the Hudson Valley or wine made from 100 percent Hudson Valley fruit.
