WARWICK — In a late executive session during the Warwick Valley School Board meeting on May 21, board member Paul Caskey announced his decision to resign his seat.

Caskey has served on the board for ten years. He said he was resigning his position as his impending move from Warwick closer to his place of employment.

The school board then voted to appoint, upon the candidate’s approval and pending certification in June of the vote, the fourth-highest vote-getter in the May 21 school board election – Shannon Hockswender.

Hockswender has agreed to serve out Caskey’s term on the board until the next regular school district election in May 2014.

Hockswender will join incumbent Robert Howe and first-time candidates Eilleen Gagliano and Keith Parsons as they begin their new terms as board members on July 1, 2013. Howe, Gagliano and Parsons were elected on May 21 to three-year terms on the Board of Education.

Board of Education positions are voluntary, unpaid three-year positions.
