Senior project draws from many influences
WARWICK Lucas Durland, a senior at Warwick Valley High School, will launch the Lucas Durland Golf Tournament on Monday, May 7, at Warwick Country Club, with the proceeds going to Maternal-Infant Services Network.
The network provides health and wellness services for women and families throughout Orange, Ulster and Sullivan counties.
Tournament is his senior project, which pulls from different areas in his life.
Lucas was introduced to the game of golf at the age of five, when his father took him out to the driving range to hit some balls and he has been swinging ever since. He has been working at Warwick Valley Country Club for several years in the Pro Shop and its where his love of the sport emerged.
Golf is now a passion and he will pursue his dream of a professional golf management career at college in September.
His mother, Rachel Durland, is a doula and childbirth educator employed by MISN, and Lucas has witnessed her dedication to the organization above and beyond that of a job.
Most people in Warwick remember my mom for her photography business, Lucas said in the press release announcing the tournament. And even though she loved taking pictures, it doesnt come close to how she feels about helping women to deliver healthy babies. Ive never seen her so happy and thats why Ive decided to make MISN the charitable recipient of the money we raise at the golf outing.
Essential information The event includes the golf outing, with registration at 11:30 a.m. and a shotgun start at 12:45 p.m., followed by a dinner and awards ceremony at 6:30 p.m. that will also feature a silent auction.
The cost for golfers is $115 for a single golfer and $430 per foursome.
Those who would just like to come for the dinner are welcome and tickets are $45 per person.
There are sponsorships available at all levels and donations of any denomination are welcome and appreciated.
