WARWICK — Considering the heavy rain the night before, the picture perfect weather, the food, the music and the company couldn’t have been better.
On Tuesday, Aug. 28, the Town of Warwick and the Warwick Valley Rotary hosted the annual senior barbecue at the town’s Union Corners Park.
Tickets for the Senior BBQ were available free to any senior citizen in the Town of Warwick. And after running out of the first batch of 800 tickets, the Town printed another 100 to make sure no senior would be disappointed.
The traditional summer picnic is billed as a “thank you” for the contributions made by the senior citizens of Warwick.
As usual it was a fun day, where community volunteers and elected officials prepared and helped serve a hot dog lunch, full chicken dinner and dessert. There also were prizes, raffles and music.
The annual Senior BBQ is supported by contributions from individuals, local businesses, service organizations and individual volunteers.
During the day Warwick Town Supervisor Michael Sweeton served as emcee, introduced all of the elected officials and conducted the raffle.
He also singled out Rotary member Jeff Rosenberg, whose generosity was instrumental in the success of this and previous senior barbecues.
Then Sweeton put on his gloves to help fill the trays of chicken dinners with fresh corn on the cob.
