WARWICK — The second annual Pink Friday, a celebration to support the battle against breast cancer, was held Friday evening, Oct. 11.

The festive as well as educational event included musical entertainment and dancing, late night shopping, in store promotions, street vendors, food samplings, wine tasting, fitness demonstrations, massages and makeovers, henna tattoos and eyebrow threading.

Proceeds from the event, sponsored by the Bon Secours Charity Health System and organized by the Warwick Merchants Guild, were earmarked for Miles of Hope, a nonprofit charity that funds support services and outreach for people affected by breast cancer in the eight counties of the Hudson Valley.

The final tally is not yet in but the Warwick Merchant Guild guarantees a minimum donation of $1,000. Last year, Tim Mullally, chairman of Pink Friday, presented a $1,500 check to Miles of Hope.

"It was a great evening for a great cause," said Mayor Michael Newhard.

Nicole Heller from the Middle School craft club arranged to have her kids create the decorations including the construction paper bows. And Corwin Florist provided the helium balloons tied to the parking meters.

Four dozen T-shirts printed by Rooster Tees, courtesy of Eddie's Road House, sold out and all proceeds will go to Miles of Hope. More tee shirts will be printed and sold for the benefit of Miles of Hope throughout October.

Besides the many colorful shops and eateries participating and offering special discounts, gifts and other promotions, there were street vendors stationed along Main Street and Railroad Avenue.

"I would like to thank Bon Secours Charity Health System for their generous sponsorship and I was also happy to see more and more merchants get involved this year, "said Mullally. "I look forward for this event to evolve and grow in the coming years."
