Roe Brothers Lumber celebrates 130 years along with major renovation

FLORIDA — Not many local businesses can make this claim.

Roe Brothers Lumber, 65 Maple Ave. in the Village of Florida, is now celebrating its 130th year in business.

The fourth generation owned and operated business has also undergone a major expansion and renovation.

In addition to adding more than 3,000 square feet showroom floor space in the Pratt and Lambert paint department, the business has added more than 5,000 new items.

Roe Brothers Inc. was founded in 1886 by John King Roe and his brothers George and Luis. And originally, with three locations in Pine Island, Chester and Florida, each was operated by one of the founding brothers.

They started out by selling coal and feed as well as lumber. Over time the Florida based location evolved and under the helm of Roe's only child Elizabeth Roe Bieling in the 1950s, it became a successful and prominent lumberyard.

In the 1960's her son Arnold Bieling worked side by side with his mother and eventually purchased the business, successfully growing it to what it is today.

Tim and Scott Bieling, the sons of Arnold and Christina Bieling, are now the fourth generation involved in spearheading the future of one of Warwick's oldest family-owned businesses.
